Dear  Associates,

My name is David Waddoups and I am contacting your firm to interview for an internship position within your company. I heard about your firm from teachers in the architectural department at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

I am currently attending the Architectural program at BYUI. I have taken several classes that will help me be a valuable asset to your firm. In our Autocad class we drafted a complete set of plans from the site plan through to details. That set contained a site plan, floor plan, four elevations, ten section details and two wall sections, one cross section, and a shaded front elevation. In our BIM class we are learning how to use and apply Revit. To start with we took a set of 2d plans and imported them into Revit and drew over the top to create a model from an existing set of plans. We then quickly designed our own building and modeled it up in Revit. We have also done an exterior and interior rendering of the building we designed. In the advanced cad class we began by learning sketchup. We modeled several small projects in sketchup just to get the feel of it. We then learned how to take our model into pirinesi and improve on it. We have had several projects in this class, including a group project that required us to collaborate with three other people. Lastly in our BIM class we have a small amount of experience in navisworks manage. We learned the basics of how it works and the large things like clash detection, illustrator, presenter and timeliner.

It is my belief that these courses, projects and experiences have given me a very solid base that I can build on with an internship at your firm. I am a self motivated individual that works well with all types of people. I have many years experience in the construction field, so I can bring additional skills and knowledge in that area to the table. The experiences I have had in classes and the construction field have given me a knowledge that I can use and expound upon when I receive an internship. I know that I can be a great asset to your firm if given the opportunity.

Thank you for your time. I will be contacting your firm next week to discuss the possibility of an interview.

Sincerely,

David Waddoups
